I think you’re searching how to survive an anime convention just because you’re anxious.
After all, you’re going to meet people that have a great sense of anime.
Don’t worry, I’m going to tell you how I survived my first anime convention just like a pro.
1. Keep A Check on Weather
Let’s suppose, it’s your favourite anime convention and you’ve dressed up like a monster, wearing something that seems to be made from cardboard and foam.
Although the con is located a few blocks away, it’s easy to walk to. But then, the rain pours all over you.
If rain is constantly happening, you should postpone it.
2. Please Have Protection to Know How to Survive An Anime Convention Truly
Even though this advice has been repeated over and again, there are still many people who don’t listen.
Cons include being sweaty in crowded areas. As you know, Coronavirus has been in the existence for quite a while.
Have two masks, sanitizers, and anything else that you need to protect yourself from the deadly virus.
3. Prepare for Emergencies
Preparedness begins at home and you need to be ready for meetups or cosplay.
This is why con survival bags have become so popular.
Always have food, water, extra shoes, accessories, a fully charged battery pack and any other items you might need.
Cosplaying can mean that you may end up at a con without getting any additional help.
It’s important to have your own supplies in order to fix any problems.
Even if everything goes well, be prepared for anything.
4. Take Care of Guests to Get the Most Out of Your Con
There is often a long list of guests at anime cons. These guests could be voice actors from your favorite animes, authors or companies, or even creators.
You may have to wait in line based on how many people are there to get an autograph.
Make sure to check out the online Guests List before you go to any con.
5. Bring Safety in Your Cosplay
Everyone wants to have their best look when cosplaying their favourite anime characters.
You don’t need to wear anything fancy but you should make sure your cosplay is safe.
The cosplay weapon size and cosplay are two of the most problematic issues.
You must have the appropriate weapons for any con.
This can be checked on the websites of con organizers.
You should have someone with you to assist you if you’re going with a bigger cosplay. After all, it’s one of the toughest things!
6. Get Consent from Others
Although it shouldn’t be mentioned, this has been a problem for a long time.
Anybody playing or simply having fun would love to have selfies.
However, it’s up to the other person. They decide whether they want a photo or a video taken.
Many cosplayers consider this their art and it’s forbidden to take pictures without their permission.
Always remember, respecting one another is key to having a great time.
7. Take Care of Your Budget
It’s my guarantee, you will spend money at every con.
Even if you say you won’t spend a penny when you go in, you will likely walk out with a poster or phone charm.
Budgeting is the best way to get around the “all or nothing” mentality.
It’s best to not spend money the first day.
You can still spend money on any day because you are more familiar with your wallet than anyone on the internet.
It’s helpful to have a limit for how much money you spend on a given day.
If you look at your overall budget, it won’t be as bad if you go over your limit in one day. You have a fixed amount you can move around with time.
By the way, I’ve read on a site that you should spend less on convention and more at convention.
Apart from this, here’s my favourite anime budget making advice. That guy really explained well about it, so don’t miss it out.
8. Get Water to Keep Yourself Hydrated At Anime Con
Although many of these things may seem like common sense advice, cons are too frequent to ignore.
People often faint at cons due to a lack of sleep or dehydration.
Make sure that you don’t replace water with soda pop, energy drinks, or sports drinks.
Or else, dehydration will snatch all the fun away.
9. Plan a Breakable Experience
There is something for everyone at cons, from booths to panels.
One thing you should know about cons is that you won’t be able to do everything.
So in that case, it’s a good idea to draw a plan.
It’s easy to pick one or two events per day that you will attend, regardless of whether it is an anime trivia podcast recording or main stage performance.
Plan smaller activities like photo ops or visits to the artist alley.
Just keep in mind that events can be canceled. So plan accordingly!
10. Stay Safe & Take Care of Yourself
Other than being hydrated, this is the most important thing you should remember about your con experience.
Cons are simply a group of people who share a common cause.
Everyone has different motives and not all are good.
Safety should always be your number one priority when you are at or near the convention.
There are several things you can do if you get invited to a party or meetup.
- You should first choose a trusted person.
- Second, let people know where you are. Many phones can ping your location, so make sure you have those.
- Don’t be forced to do anything or go anywhere just because others are putting pressure on you.
Last but not the least. After all the planning and budgeting, enjoy the convention like a pro.
You might feel irritated by the large number of people at the con. But, when you see the big picture, you might think of yourself as silly to worry about the little things.
The Bottom Line
An anime convention is designed to help you connect with the people and places you love.
It’s easy to make friends with creators and fans who are just as happy as you.
While the con can be stressful, it doesn’t have to ruin the experience.
Although a bit of stress is okay, don’t forget to have the fun to the fullest.
I hope now you know how to survive an anime convention like a pro. Good luck 😉
